How do you carve your own path as a bass player?

When Dunlop set out to create their own bass strings, they were determined to create the perfect set for themselves, their artists, and other bass players. Right from the beginning, Dunlop knew they’d have carve their own path. Instead of relying on old techniques, they put in the work and did it their way, from the ground up.

Dunlop also looked to the unique insights of such legendary players as Marcus Miller and Robert Trujillo, who came to Dunlop seeking a more modern and more expressive set of bass strings. Players with the skill and confidence to stand out and sound like themselves.

“To have a distinct sound and make your own statement is what we all aspire to achieve,” Robert says. “It just takes time.” Marcus agrees. “You start to trust yourself. If you’re creative, you’ll take some influences, but by the time it goes through your filter, it turns into something completely different.”

Recently, Marcus and Robert sat down to talk about how they did just that. Check it out to discover the influences they share and how they’ve used the pivotal lessons they've learned to establish their own unique “voices” as bass players. After that, Marcus and Robert ditch the stools for a killer jam session featuring Rage Against the Machine’s Brad Wilk on drums. It’s a first-ever collaboration that you won’t want to miss.
