Dunlop announces the brand new 2022 String Lab Artist Series
This summer, Dunlop is releasing a new batch of custom string sets designed in close collaboration with Korn's Head and Munky, Trivium's Matt Heafy and Corey Beaulieu, and Jim Root in the Dunlop String Lab. These are the exact same sets that they use, crafted to deliver the tone and tension they need for peak performance and ultimate creative expression.
When you're dishing out blast-beat-driven grooves and extra twisted melodies from downtuned depths like Jim Root, you need a set of strings that will stand up to your onslaught while staying in tune. He came to the Dunlop String Lab to design just such a set. Jim handpicked each gauge and core size to ensure peak performance, from feel and response to tuning stability.
"These strings give me what I need to get my sound, and they're comfortable to play no matter what I throw at them," Jim says‚ "They keep their high-end clarity for a long time, and they're really consistent from one pack to the next—they never break on me."
Korn’s Head and Munky helped kick off the nu-metal movement with 7-string guitars and aggressive downtuned grooves. Searching for a way to evolve that sound and fully unlock the true potential of their instruments, they came to Dunlop. Dunlop worked closely with both players to build a set of strings around Heavy Core technology for increased dynamic range, optimal tension when drop-tuned, and incredible tuning stability. This is that set of strings—carefully tailored to the tonal and tactile dynamics of 7-string guitars. It’s the sound and feel that Head and Munky depend on whether they’re cutting tracks in the studio or throwing it down on stage.
Trivium's Matt Heafy and Corey Beaulieu need gear that keeps up with their creative drive. That's why they came to the Dunlop String Lab and designed their own set of Heavy Core® Strings, with each gauge handpicked to keep notes stable and focused at lowered tunings while offering a full dynamic range that's balanced with vivid highs and rich lows. This set gives Matt and Corey the freedom to create the music they love with peak performance and playability.
"Since the beginning, Trivium has used Dunlop Strings—the exact same custom set you are holding in your hands," say Corey and Matt." We have vastly different equipment and playing styles, but the one constant between us is—and has always been—Dunlop's world-class strings."
