Saint Patrick’s Day, what about it?

We all know about Saint Patrick’s Day. It’s the day we attend parades, wear shamrocks or something green, drink Irish beer or whiskey and of course: Listen to Irish music.  

Saint Patrick’s Day is the day we celebrate the death of the patron saint of Ireland. This was made official in the 17th century by the Catholic church. The day now celebrates Saint Patrick, the arrival of Christianity in Ireland and the proud heritage and culture of the Irish in general.

 

Fun fact: Saint Patrick’s Day is celebrated in more countries than any other national holiday.

However, in recent years there has been a lot of criticism on how Saint Patrick’s Day is celebrated. According to many, it has become too commercialized and also brings out negative stereotypes of the Irish.
